Physiology

The history of physiology in Korea began in 1913 when J.D.

Van Birskirk joined the Severance Union Medical School, at which he taught physiology and biochemistry classes.

Today, the fields of study in the Department of Physiology can be broadly divided into two fields: neurophysiology and smooth muscle physiology.

In the neurophysiology laboratory, the regeneration of nerve cells as well as electrophysiological research on the mechanism of neuronal damage are studied.

The function of the cerebral compensation circuit and its related brain condition, drug addiction, are also areas of interest in the laboratory.

In the smooth muscle laboratory, studies on the mechanism and pathogenesis of conditions such as premature labor and hypertension are being conducted.
