The major research of the department concentrates on elucidating molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena, specifically, regulation of eukaryotic gene expression in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Gene regulation during organ development is another area of interest. In addition, production of bioactive substances through genetic engineering and and their application to gene therapy fall under the scope of our research. Finally, the department has recently become interested in elucidating the mechanism of oncogenesis in terms of signal transduction and the cell cycle.
